Zay Flowers made a bit of history in the Baltimore Ravens’ Week 7 win over the Detroit Lions.
Flowers emerged as a reliable target for Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson against the Lions. The rookie wideout hauled in four receptions for 75 receiving yards in the contest, including a 46-yard reception in the first quarter.
With his stout performance against the current NFC North leaders, Flowers once again etched his name in NFL history. The former Boston College standout joined Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase (2021 season) as the only wideouts since 1970 to tally at least 50 yards from scrimmage in each of his first seven games in the NFL.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was not much surprised to see Flowers achieve such a feat.
"I would say for seven games in, yes, it’s probably as good as it can be," Harbaugh said during a press conference on Monday. "[Zay Flowers] is really diligent. He’s very smart, and yet, he’s not anywhere near where he’s going to be, in terms of understanding the offense. He’s still learning. He’s still figuring out where to line up; you saw it yesterday a few times. He’s still learning the nuances of the routes.
"[WR coach] Greg [Lewis] does a great job with him. Greg Lewis and [assistant WR coach] Keith Williams both do a great job with those guys, with all that."
In the big picture, Harbaugh knows that the rookie has bigger goals in mind.
"He's doing great, but he’s going to get a lot better, and he needs to get better," Harbaugh said. "I promise you, he’s very determined to keep getting better. He's not thinking about that kind of a stat, which is very cool, but right now, he’s just thinking about the Cardinals."
Flowers has tallied 454 yards from scrimmage so far this season.
