The Kansas City Chiefs are set to lose a promising rookie from their practice squad.

It's the time of year when injuries are mounting, cuts are happening, and trades are being discussed around the league. Teams are scouring the free-agent pool and practice squads for any potential edge as the second half of the season nears.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero recently shared that the Pittsburgh Steelers are shaking up their secondary. They've informed veteran CB Desmond King that they intend to trade or release him. In a corresponding decision, they're set to sign CB Darius Rush from the Chiefs' practice squad.

Kansas City first acquired Rush during 53-man roster cuts this past September. The Colts waived the 2023 fifth-round draft pick, and the Chiefs promptly claimed him on waivers, making him a member of their initial 53-man roster.

The 6-foot-2 and 198-pound cornerback out of South Carolina was a riser in the 2023 NFL draft, but it was clear he needed some polish. He'd only played the cornerback position since the 2021 college football season. That's why he eventually wound up waived from the 53-man roster and on the practice squad in Kansas City.

Thankfully, the Chiefs won't be too burdened by the loss of Rush. They still have CB Ekow Boye-Doe and CB Keith Taylor on the practice squad, along with a half dozen players who can play the position on the 53-man roster. That said, he was an intriguing developmental prospect that you would have liked to see through if you were the coaching staff in Kansas City.
