Kamal Hadden was having a tremendous season for the Tennessee Volunteers.  The redshirt senior cornerback was Tennessee's most reliable cover guy on the team and one of the best in the SEC.

Now, Tennessee has a sizeable hole to fill in its defense. Hadden announced on Thursday on his Instagram account (language warning) that he's having season-ending surgery after suffering an injury last Saturday in Tennessee's 34-20 loss to Alabama.

The redshirt senior was having a strong season, earning a Pro Football Focus grade of 85.8, the second highest on the entire Tennessee defense.  He allowed 12 catches on 33 targets (36.4%) for 96 total yards, which translates to just 8 yards per catch.  Elite numbers, to be sure.

The injury, which he sustained to his shoulder, occurred when a hard collision sent Hadden to a knee multiple times before he was able to make it off the field.  As it turns out, it wasn't a simple stinger or a bruise, but something apparently far more serious that will require surgery to repair.

Doneiko Slaughter spelled Hadden in Tuscaloosa, but Warren Burrell is listed as a co-starter with Hadden on the depth chart.  One or both will look to help fill the massive shoes vacated after Thursday's deflating news.
