The Jets are closer to getting back to full strength for the long stretch run that they hope leaves to a playoff berth for the first time in a dozen years.

Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed, both of whom missed the Week 6 win against the Philadelphia Eagles were full participants in practice this week and Robert Saleh said both have cleared concussion protocol and will be in line to start on Sunday against the New York Giants.

D.J. Reed missed the last two games, both victories against the Denver Broncos and the Eagles before the bye week. Sauce only missed the Eagles game after his illness symptoms turned out to be concussion symptoms.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh announced the two starters return on Friday adding “it does allow flexibilty on the defense. It allows you to do a couple things that you wouldn’t without those two guys.”

The Jets had also activated Jarrick Bernard-Converse this week. Bernard-Converse was a taken in the sixth round of the draft out of L.S.U. Bernard-Converse started the season on the reserve/physically unable to perform list.

The team activated his 21-day practice window on October 4. He is now officially on the active roster. The Jets had an open roster spot following last week’s trade of wide receiver Mecole Hardman to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Bernard-Converse is listed as a safety but can play both safety and cornerback similar to the way the Jets use Tony Adams.

Brandin Echols also looks to be close to returning from his hamstring injury and could suit up for the Jets against the Giants on Sunday.

The offense for the New York Giants might not be the scariest or the most potent, but the Jets defensive back room has not looked this strong or healthy all season.

The Giants, who average a league worst 12.1 points per game, are dealing with several issues along their offensive line and the Jets will look to exploit that with their stellar front four. The fact that the defensive backfield will be healthy only adds to the pressure for the Giants.

The Jets still don’t know which QB they will be facing on Sunday as Daniel Jones continues to try and return from a neck injury he sustained three weeks ago. Veteran journeyman Tyrod Taylor has played well in Jones’ absence.
