The New York Jets will face one of the best teams in the NFL on Sunday without arguably two of their best players.  Two players who play the same position.

The Jets announced on Friday that cornerback DJ Reed would miss the game vs the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday with a concussion.  Reed had already missed the previous game against Denver Broncos.

Now, the Jets already thin at corner, will be without their best one.  The Jets announced Saturday that Sauce Gardner would also miss the Eagles game with a concussion.

The Jets already were in a tough spot without Reed, but Gardner is an even bigger blow. Gardner was an All-Pro and the Defensive rookie of the Year for a reason. He’s an elite cornerback who rarely gets beat.

As if being down your top two corners wasn't bad enough, the Jets are going up against two of the most prolific wide receivers in the game with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.  The duo have already combined for 831 yards on 58 catches this year.

The Jets are likely to keep Bryce Hall at one corner spot and move Craig James to the other side.  Hall played well against Denver last week but has barely played the last two seasons and the Eagles are much more prolific than the Broncos.  James is on the practice squad and hasn’t started a game since 2019, when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Jets could decide to bump Michael Carter from his natural spot at the nickel and have safety Tony Adams handle the slot.  The Jets have resisted moving Carter to the outside because that’s not his natural position and it would make the Jets worse in the nickel.

With the Eagles having one of the best rushing attacks in football and great weapons on the outside, this is not an ideal time to be down one, let alone two, shutdown corners.

The Jets already faced an uphill battle against the 5-0 Eagles but now it seems like they are playing for pride.  This one could get ugly fast.

Jets lose Alijah Vera-Tucker for the second year in a row

Right now, it feels like even when the Jets win, they still lose. One day after the Jets were able to hammer out their second win of the season against the Denver Broncos by a final of 31-21, gang green found out that they suffered a loss bigger than the game. Star offensive lineman Alijah […]
