Week 6 is over for the Detroit Lions and now it's time to really get into the meat and potatoes of the NFL trade deadline. Last year the deadline fell on November 1st. While there were 10 trades that day, there were six trades the week before that.

Outside of the T.J. Hockenson trade on deadline day, those trades were a lot bigger than the ones that actually went down on deadline day. We're talking the Christian McCaffrey, Roquan Smith and Kadarius Toney trades.

With that in mind, I've scoured the NFL and I've come up with the five most realistic players that could be playing for the Lions by the end of this week or at the deadline. Here they are:

Danielle Hunter

The Vikings seem like a team that’s about to hit the rebuild button any day now. Justin Jefferson is slated to be out for the next six weeks and the Kirk Cousins trade talk is heating up, even if both sides say it’s not happening. While he may not get moved, somebody is likely to get moved from this team. That somebody could be Hunter. The Vikings are reportedly taking calls on him now.

The season didn't start well for Hunter and the Vikings. He sat out camp until the team could work out a new deal with him. They put together a band-aid deal that at least got him back for the year. After this season, who knows what will happen?

Hunter would be a real problem on the other side of Aidan Hutchinson. We're talking 'best defensive line in football' type of problems. He's got eight sacks already this year. It could be costly for the Lions, but they're a team that wants to contend. This is one way you can make sure you do it.

My offer:

  • Lions get: Danielle Hunter and a 2024 7th round pick
  • Vikings get: James Houston, 2024 third round pick (Vikings) and a 2025 third round pick

Chase Young

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

There’s no secret here. I’ve been talking about this one for months. I truly believe that this this is the most realistic thing that happens for the Lions. Things haven’t worked out in Washington. Even if he is having a better season so far.

Chase Young and Aidan Hutchinson would be a sweet pairing and they would also be a cheap pairing. At least until it's time to pay Hutchinson. Young will be looking for a new contract after this season, but he's not going to command top edge rusher money like Dannielle Hunter might.

My offer:

  • Lions get: Chase Young
  • Commanders get: 2024 third round pick (Vikings)

Adoree’ Jackson

Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports

Jackson is having a real down year with the Giants right now. That’s exactly why the Lions should strike right now on this one. Jackson has been good every year of his career. I don’t think he’s just done now at 28-years-old. I think a lot of the problem is that he plays on the worst defense in the NFL.

The Lions just lost Emmanuel Mosely for the season and now they have some depth problems at corner. Jackson could come right in and be a big part of the Lions defensive back room day one. Don't forget that this team has a history of getting players back to where they're supposed to be play wise. Jackson could be that next project.

My Offer:

  • Lions get: Adoree' Jackson
  • Giants get: 2024 6th round pick

Courtland Sutton

Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Speaking of rebuilds, the Broncos might be the worst team in football right now and they might be about to go on a full on fire sale at the deadline. If that’s the case, the Lions could really use an X receiver. I’ve been talking about it all year long. A big bodied guy that can go up and get it is what this offense needs to push it even farther over the top.

Sutton is ripe for the trading right now due to his contract. The Broncos have an out in this deal after this season. If they were to trade him this week, they would knock just over $14 million off their cap right away and would only have to pay a little over $10 million in cap space. They also won't have to pay him $13 million over the course of the next two seasons.

My Offer:

  • Lions get: Courtland Sutton
  • Broncos get: 2024 5th round pick

Jaylon Johnson

Daniel Bartel-USA TODAY Sports

The Bears are reportedly gauging interest for Johnson ahead of the deadline. As I mentioned already, the Lions could use some depth at corner. Here is a guy who could be that and more. We’re talking about a guy that could push Jerry Jacobs for his cornerback two spot some day. Or at least be a solid depth piece. There’s a lot of potential here for the 24-year-old

My Offer:

  • Lions get: Jaylon Johnson
  • Bears get: 2024 6th round pick

9 takeaways from Lions vs Bucs

This looked like a tough game for the Detroit Lions all week. The Buccaneers are one hell of a football team. The Lions were able to go in and do their thing despite a slow start on offense and they got the job done with a 20-6 win. With the Eagles and 49ers losses, the […]
