Had this been a loss, maybe Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott wouldn't be putting together stand-up comedy answers like the one he provided postgame on Monday night after beating the Los Angeles Chargers.
Prescott asked about what went wrong on the Cowboys' failed fourth down conversion in the first half when the team attempted a "tush push."
"They didn't push my tush enough," Prescott hilariously explained to reporters.
The play – popularized by the Philadelphia Eagles – has taken over the NFL and it's essentially a QB sneak where teammates push the quarterback to get him to move the chains. While it's been mostly efficient for teams that try it, no organization has done it quite like the Eagles. Naturally, when there's a failure to have it convert around the league, questions inevitably come.
Although the execution left the Cowboys without points on the 10-play drive, the decision to go for it was the correct one. Ben Baldwin's fourth down bot indicated Dallas had a 68% probability of moving the chains. The dice didn't roll in their favor this time.
The Cowboys were unharmed by the situation defense forced a stop and gave the offense about a minute to work with. Despite a controversial timeout called by Mike McCarthy that would've given Prescott a shot for six, the Cowboys still got three points before halftime.
The Cowboys went on to beat the Chargers 20-17 to improve to 4-2 ahead of the bye week. There's still a lot left to fine tune but this was quite the step in the right direction for the franchise.
Next up are the Los Angeles Rams (Week 8) and Philadelphia Eagles (Week 9). Bucke up, Cowboys Nation. This is about to get fun.
Cowboys: Why did the Chargers get the ball back on odd Jalen Tolbert play?
Tough, tough break.
