FOXBOROUGH, Mass – The New England Patriots have had clear struggles this season, and because of that many of the players have become frustrated with their personal performance along with the team's showing.
Specifically, one player voiced his anger on X, formerly known as Twitter, when one account posted the total snap counts from Sunday's game. Safety Jalen Mills responeded, pointing out they he didn't have as many as he would have liked.
And on Thursday, Lawrence Guy was asked about his fellow defenseman's displeasure towards his play time and had a powerful message for him.
“I’ve been there," Guy told reporters. "Those are just how the dice are rolled right now, but that’s hasn’t stopped his preparation, hasn’t stopped his work ethic on the field. And that's kudos to him."
He remembered a time in 2019 when he had back-to-back games with low snap counts and recalled that it is frustrating, but you just have to focus on what you can control.
"He works hard. He works hard every single day," Guy added. "Certain situations are what they are. But I can tell you this, the grind that man has on this field and and the passion he has is amazing. The messages he gives out as a leader on the team's amazing."
The Patriots have suffered two blowout losses in the last two games, falling to the Dallas Cowboys and being shutout by the New Orleans Saints. And Mill's disappointment comes from a place of caring, known to be a natural competitor.
"He's competitive. You know we all are," Jonathan Jones said. "You want guys that want to be out there and want to play with you."
Maybe Mills will see more snaps as the Patriots look to get back in the win column against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
