The Bears should sell high and move on from Justin Fields after win
The Chicago Bears won last night. That's great. It only took 347 days to get it done. Not bad. The take this morning by a lot of outlets is that Justin Fields as arrived and that he's finally figured it out. At least that's the take from most. The take that peaked my interest is […]
The Chicago Bears won last night. That's great. It only took 347 days to get it done. Not bad. The take this morning by a lot of outlets is that Justin Fields as arrived and that he's finally figured it out. At least that's the take from most. The take that peaked my interest is this one.
The premise here that the Bears should sell right now. Try to trade Justin Fields when he's coming off a hot game. I can't argue with it. NFL teams are so reactive and so desperate for quarterback success that they'll bite on anything that looks good. Guys like Matt Flynn, Chase Daniel, Scott Mitchell, Neil O'Donnel and more have made their careers off a good game or two and a reactive team signing them in hopes that their success is sustainable.
Yeah, the Bears won last night and that's great, but it can't hide the fact that Fields has been the Bears quarterback for 32 games and they've only won six of them. It also doesn't hide the fact that Fields has thrown 26 interceptions and fumbled the ball 32 times and lost 13 of them. Lastly, it doesn't hide that he completes a near NFL worst 61% of his passes. Even last night he only completed 51.7% of his passes. That's really bad.
Look, I know what you're thinking right now. You're probably upset by the mere idea of this article. You probably want to just focus on the win. I get that, but it's the future of this team that you should be focused on. The Bears have a very rare opportunity right now.
They're sitting in spot where they can walk out of the draft next April with two of the most generationally talent prospects the draft has seen in a very long time. They could draft Caleb Williams and Marvin Harrison Jr. and be set for a long time with a killer quarterback and receiver duo.
What if they were able to add another high draft pick to the mix? I'm telling you right now, there's a team out there that would probably spend a first round draft pick on Fields. Even if it's not the right thing to do.
The Jets, Falcons, Giants, Broncos, Titans, Rams, Raiders and Saints are just a few teams that come to mind. They could all be looking for a new quarterback soon for one reason or another. The Bears could be there to help facilitate that right now.
Even if it's not a 1st round pick, a 2nd round is almost a lock at this point. It's the potential they want. It's the same thing as when a girl dates a trainwreck of a guy becasue she believes she fix him. There's a team out there that's going to feel that way about Fields. There's actually many teams that feel that way.
What does that mean for this season? Let the tanking fully begin. Once again, it's so incredibly rare that team has the first two draft picks of the draft. What's even more rare is that there's guys with this type of talent in those two spots. These aren't your regular prospects. These guys are the future of the NFL.
Now, do you want to be a part of that future, or would you like to keep seeing if Fields works out?
