Sundays are for football, and they are also for A to Z Sports' latest 53-man roster projection.
The Patriots hosted the Philadelphia Eagles for their second preseason game, and it solidified some players spots on the roster, while also bringing some into question.
Here's where we see things standing heading into Preseason Week 3.
Quarterbacks (3)
IN: Jacoby Brissett, Drake Maye, and Joe Milton III
OUT/Trade: Bailey Zappe
The second preseason game was very telling in terms of the quarterback depth. Jacoby Brissett got the start, followed by rookie Drake Maye. But when it came time for the fourth quarter, the team sent out rookie Joe Milton rather than Zappe.
All Zappe was tasked with was a final two-minute drive that stalled. Zappe went from being waived at final roster cuts last season to being back up quarterback, and then being the starter.
But it was clear the team needed to bring in some quarterback help during the offseason. And based on that, it appears Zappe's time in New England is coming to an end.
While he could be cut, the other option is a trade. The Minnesota Vikings lost J.J. McCarthy for the season due to injury and now they are relying on Sam Darnold. But they could look for a true back up quarterback who could step in if needed.
Running Backs (3)
IN: Rhamondre Stevenson, Antonio Gibson, Kevin Harris
OUT: JaMycal Hasty, Terrell Jennings, Deshaun Fenwick
The top three running backs on the roster have been fairly clear since the beginning of training camp. There was no doubt that Rhamondre Stevenson was going to take that top spot. And the team brought in Antonio Gibson for depth. So that left the third spot open.
Due to Stevenson's injury last season, Kevin Harris stepped up and had some success despite the team's poor offensive performance. Right now, he has that third spot, but JaMycal Hasty is certainly making a play for that spot.
UDFA Deshaun Fenwick was released by the Patriots and re-signed shortly after. So clearly the Patriots see something in him, and he has a strong shot at making the practice squad.
Wide Receivers (7)
IN: Javon Baker, DeMario Douglas, K.J. Osborn, Ja'Lynn Polk, Jalen Reagor, Tyquan Thornton, David Wallis
OUT: Kawaan Baker, JaQuae Jackson, Kayshon Boutte
PUP: Kendrick Bourne
For the most part this preseason, six receivers have proven to be the main weapons for New England. But that seventh spot has been between Kayshon Boutte and Daivd Wallis. In our last roster projection, we had Boutte making the team.
But as of now, Wallis has proven to be more valuable. And that's because of his special teams contributions.
Tight Ends (3)
IN: Hunter Henry, Austin Hooper, Jaheim Bell
OUT: Jacob Warren, Mitchell Wilcox, La'Michael Pettway
Hunter Henry was been sidelined with an injury, but his roster spot is a no brainer. And with the top tight end out, Austin Hooper has stepped up. Bell, whom the Patriots drafted in the last round, has done enough in the preseason to earn a spot.
Offensive Line (8)
IN: David Andrews, Nick Leverett, Vederian Lowe, Chukwuma Okorafor, Mike Onwenu, Layden Robinson, Sidy Sow, Caedan Wallce
OUT: Atonio Mafi, Calvin Anderson, Kellen Diesch, Liam Fornadel, Zuri Henry, Michael Jordan, Charles Turner
PUP: Cole Strange
IR: Jake Andrews
The offensive line is one of the most concerning areas of the offense going into the season, with the team struggling to have definitive tackles. Andrews will of course be at center, with Sidy Sow on his left at guard. Onwenu has spent most of training camp at right guard, with Chukwuma Okorafor at right tackle. And in the past two weeks, it has been Vederian Lowe on the left side.
Defensive Line (7)
IN: Davon Godchaux, Deatrich Wise, Daniel Ekuale, Jeremiah Pharms, Armon Watts, Trysten Hill, Mike Purcell
OUT: Sam Roberts, William Bradley-King, Jotham Russell, Josiah Bronson, IR: Christian Barmore
With Christian Barmore, who was one of the top players on the defensive line last season, sidelined due to blood clots, it's unlikely he will be ready to go early in the season. Davon Godchaux is an easy one and has become even more valuable with Barmore sidelined, along with Daniel Ekuale who will fill in at that spot. Jeremiah Pharms earned his spot with his standout performance in the first preseason game. We also have Armon Watts currently making the roster along with Trysten Hill and Mike Purcell.
Linebacker (9)
IN: Ja'Whaun Bentley, Christian Elliss, Raekwon McMillan, Jahlani Tavai, Keion White, Joshua Uche, Anfernee Jennings, Oshane Ximines, Joe Giles-Harris
OUT: Steele Chambers
PUP: Sione Takitaki
Without Matthew Judon, it will be important to have more faces in the room to help substitute the Pro Bowlers production. Keion White, Joshua Uche, and Oshane Ximines all recorded sacks in the loss to the Eagles. Raekwon McMillan led the team in tackles, and Joe Giles-Harris has had a lot of pass breakups during training camp. The other players made an impact last season and are expected to get right back into it when the season starts.
Cornerback (6)
IN: Alex Austin, Isaiah Bolden, Marco Wilson, Christian Gonzalez, Jonathan Jones, Marcus Jones
OUT: Marcellas Dial, Mikey Victory, Shaun Wade, Azizi Hearn
Marcellas Dial really struggled in Thursday's preseason game, so he would do well being around the team, but not necessarily on the active roster. The practice squad would probably be better for him at this moment.
While we had Dial making the roster after the first game, Marco Wilson now takes his spot.
Safeties (4)
IN: Kyle Dugger, Jabrill Peppers, Jaylinn Hawins, Brenden Schooler
OUT: Joshuah Bledsoe, Dell Pettus
PUP: Marte Mapu
Mapu hasn't seen anytime at training camp, appearing to be dealing with an injury. So because of that, the team could start him on PUP. Despite mainly being on special teams, Brenden Schooler has taken a lot of reps at safety in training camp and has looked solid.
Specialists (3)
IN: Joey Slye, Bryce Baringer, Joe Cardona
OUT: Chad Ryland, Tucker Addington
Joey Slye has been the best kicker in the past two weeks of the preseason, so the kicker spot currently goes to him.
