FOXBOROUGH, Mass – For Joe Milton III, the rookie quarterback was beyond excited to get on the field and make his NFL debut in the team's first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers last week.
And he credits his time with the Tennessee Volunteers for helping prepare him for the NFL.
"Tennessee put us in a situation where we can go out there and execute no matter what. Especially the offense we played in," Milton said in an exclusive conversation with A to Z Sports. "Just trusting what we see and being able to deliver the ball."
Tennessee will always be close to Milton's heart. He still wears his No. 7 chain every day during practice. So the quarterback took a moment to send a special message to Vols fans who are following his career closely after his impressive debut last Thursday.
"Keep going. Make sure the stadium's always loud. Make sure when it's a blackout, make sure we turn it up. Keep going and keep that things rolling. VFL for life."

Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton started his NFL career off with a bang on Thursday night in his preseason debut with the New England Patriots.
Milton, a sixth round selection by the Patriots in the 2024 NFL Draft, showed off his rushing ability with a couple of impressive scrambles, before later showing off his arm on an accurate touchdown throw against the Carolina Panthers.
The touchdown throw from Milton was particularly impressive. He quickly scanned the field before finding an open receiver while displaying a nice feel in the pocket.
Milton is currently battling Bailey Zappe for the Patriots' No. 3 quarterback job. New England is seemingly already locked in on Jacoby Brissett and rookie first round draft pick Drake Maye as their top two options.
Thursday night was a nice start for Milton's NFL career. But he'll have to show some consistency over the next couple of preseason games if he wants to have any chance at shaking up the depth chart.
Patriots QB tries to one-up Joe Milton's viral celebration, but the real winner is clear
The New England Patriots made a splash in the 2024 NFL Draft, taking not one, but two quarterbacks. Drake Maye was selected with the third overall pick, but later on in the sixth round, the team decided to bring in former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Joe Milton.
And Milton has quickly become a fan-favorite in New England, in part because of his joyful attitude and fun celebrations.
At each training camp practice, the quarterback's compete in target practice, aiming at openings in a net. And most of the time when Milton makes it, he gets the crowd even more hyped by doing a backflip right after.
But Jacoby Brissett was tired of Milton getting all the attention. So he decided to bring in a move of his own.
While he couldn't do a flip, he opted for a cartwheel instead.
But it's safe to say that Milton still has the advantage in terms of these celebration moves. The rookie might have to give Brissett some pointers.
