With EA Sports Madden NFL 25 set to come out later this month, player rating reveals have already made their rounds. They found the eyes of Cincinnati Bengals cornerback DJ Turner II, and he wasn't too happy.
Turner's speed rating was given a 96, which left him outside of the top 10 fastest players in the game. Turner called his omission "Treason."
96 speed certainly doesn't make Turner a snail in the game, but it might just be a tad too low for him. Only four players in the history of the NFL Scouting Combine ran an official 40-yard dash time faster than his time of 4.26 seconds last year.
Now there's at least 10 players faster than him in the league? We see his frustration. Only one of those players are on this list in new record-holder Xavier Worthy (4.21). Tariq Woolen also ran a 4.26 back in 2022.
Madden ratings usually treat young players such as Turner harshly due to their lack of experience, but speed is speed. There isn't a player on the Bengals who can beat him in a footrace, and he can go toe-to-toe with most of the players listed above him.
A good second season for Turner could help boost his ratings for next year. He's projected to be the starter cornerback ahead of Dax Hill, though that competition is far from over.
Cincinnati has confidence in one of the two emerging as a solid starter this year. The club only signed veteran Nate Brooks to round out the group, and Brooks isn't going to be a starter. Rookie Josh Newton is also impressing at training camp, but he's also in line to be a reserve.
Everything's in front of Turner to establish himself as a starter, and run so fast that the folks at EA Sports will have to respect his speed.
