On Friday we put our our Detroit Lions 53-man roster and depth chart projection after the Lions played the New York Giants on Thursday night. Now it's time to project who the Lions are going to want to bring into the season for extended look on their practice squad.

The Lions may have the best practice squad situation in the NFL. If you're a practice squad guy in Detroit, you're more than likely going to play during the season. Here's the 16 guys that you could see elevated from time to time this year.

RB Zonovan Knight: Craig Reynolds and Sione Vaki are pretty likely to make the roster and Jermar Jefferson will probably get claimed off waivers after the Lions make the hard decision to cut him. Knight showed some promise last season and he looked good Thursday too.

WR Antoine Green: Maybe some day he'll be ready to go, but so far he looks like the odd man out among the potential receivers that can make the team. Still, he's worth hanging onto.

C Duke Clemens: If Clemens has another preseason performance like he did on Thursday, he's going to have a real shot to make the Lions 53-man roster. Until then, don't let this guy out of your sight.

G Jake Barton: He also had a pretty good game on Thursday night and there is some connection there for him and Hank Fraley. He should get a shot.

Edge Mathieu Betts: I know Lions fans were hoping the former CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player award winner would seamlessly transfer his skills to the NFL for the Lions, but that's not happening. Still, there is talent there and the staff likes him. He'll get a shot.

DT Kyle Peko: Dan Campbell has had some good stuff to say about the veteran. He's been consistent and can be a guy that can elevate to the main roster if the Lions experience more defensive line injuries like they had last year. He's like this year's Tyson Alualu.

Edge Mitchell Agude: This one is a tough call. He might make the 53-man roster, but the competition is so tight right now. He had a good game Thursday night and could find a spot if he continues to play well. He might not be here in next week's projection.

LB DaRon Gilbert: He was all over the field on Thursday and made tackles and broke up passes. The trouble is that he has five guys in front of him right now and that's going to make it incredibly hard.

CB/S Morice Norris: Like Agude, he's another guy that has a real shot to make the Lions' 53-man roster. He's exactly the kind of player they like and has really good versatility. It just depends on how many players they want in that secondary.

CB Kindle Vildor: He's a hard cut because he's been reliable. He's like what the Lions really wanted Will Harris to be. Can't see them letting him walk away if he clears waivers.

S Loren Strickland: A special teams ace that hits like he's trying to extract Sonic rings from anyone that has the ball in his hands. He's another guy that it will be hard for the team to cut. But they have to make sure they keep him.

K Jake Bates: While I don't think that Bates is going to be the Lions' kicker going into the year, that doesn't mean I think the team wants to be done with him.  Spending a year working on his accuracy would be big for him.

LS Hogan Hatten: Having a long snapper on the practice squad turned out to be a good idea last year after Scott Daly got hurt. Plus he can play linebacker if you need him to.

QB ?: I don't know who this is going to be, but the Lions are looking for a quarterback at the moment and keeping one around on the practice squad is a good idea.

WR Tom Kennedy: Would it be a practice squad if Tom Kennedy weren't on it? You know this guy is going to wind up coming back.

WR Tre'Quan Smith: It's good to have a vet around and Smith has a lot of years under his belt. He hasn't shown enough to make the 53-man roster, but he's shown enough over his career to make you want to keep him around just in case.

International Pathways Player spot: David Bada was more than likely going to hold this area down, but he suffered an Achilles injury on Thursday night and right now we don't know the severity of that. So we'll see there.
