Tennessee Titans players hit the practice field for the first time as training camp is officially underway in Nashville. A handful of Titans players spoke to the media, but it was newly signed safety Jamal Adams who raised eyebrows with his comments about a potential reunion with one of his former teammates.
Adams arrives in Tennessee looking to recreate some of his magic and return to form after a litany of injuries have derailed his career. The three-time Pro Bowler answered questions for the first time on Wednesday since signing his one-year deal worth $1.125 million.
Adams spent his last four seasons playing with the Seattle Seahawks, playing in one of the NFL's most feared secondaries. Playing alongside Adams was a fellow three-time Pro Bowler and current free agent safety, Quandre Diggs.
The Titans still have numerous answered questions on just how the safety positions might look. Amani Hooker is a known commodity entering the prime of his career, but with the current assortment of safeties, it's fair to wonder if he might make a switch from strong safety to free safety.
Tennessee has poked around at free safety options in free agency, most notably contacting Justin Simmons and Diggs. Adams was asked about the possibility of Diggs teaming up with his former safety partner in Tennessee, and while he said he isn't pushing Diggs to make the move to Music City, he did admit that he "hopefully we get him."
The addition of a player like Diggs (31) would serve as a major upgrade at a position of need. Diggs was named to three straight Pro Bowls from 2020-2022, totaling 14 interceptions in that time frame. Almost as impressive, Diggs has played in 67 consecutive games and hasn't missed an outing since the 2019 season.
As it currently stands, the Titans have just under $24 million in salary cap space at their disposal. General manager Ran Carthon has more than enough salary cap flexibility to add the finishing touches to a much-improved Titans roster heading into the 2024 season.
Much like Adams, Titans fans also wish to add Diggs to the mix of talented defensive backs already in Tennessee. If Carthon is able to land the former Seahawks stud, the Titans would boast one of, if not the most talented, secondaries in the NFL.
