Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is due for a contract extension, but that's the last thing he's worried about right now.
When asked about how those contract talks are going during his football camp this week, Prescott told reports that he has one thing on his mind.
"There's been conversations back and forth, but for the most part as ya'll know, I've been letting my agent do that," Prescott said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. "Especially as we get right here into training camp. Day 1 of training camp, my mind obviously just flips to helping my team and just doing everything I can within the organization and on the football field to make sure that I'm my best and everyone around me is their best. The money and all that will take care of itself as it always has."
Money might be important in the back of Prescott's mind but it hasn't been the motive since he was present at both Cowboys' voluntary OTAs and mandatory minicamp.
The Cowboys have only been hurting themselves waiting around to pay their QB1 and with Trevor Lawrence's new five-year, $55 million per year deal, Prescott is sitting pretty at possibly signing a $60 million annual extension.
It helps that Prescott is in full control of staying or going if Dallas doesn't offer him what he's looking for since he is set to become a free agent in 2024 and has no strings attached under his current contract.
The expectation is that a new deal gets done by or during Cowboys training camp, which kicks off on July 21.
Prescott isn't the only Cowboys star waiting on a new deal, defensive end Micah Parsons and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb are also looking for their next big payday.
