A recent comment from a 2025 four-star wide receiver should bode well for the Tennessee Vols' chances of landing the talented recruit.

Four-star wide receiver Travis Smith Jr is set to announce his commitment on July 13. Earlier this week, he spoke to 247Sports about his recruitment and the factors that will go into his decision.

Smith, 6-foot-4/199 lbs from Atlanta, GA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 16 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 14 player in the state of Georgia.

Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Tennessee are the four finalists for Smith.

"I think it's going to boil down to offensive firepower, being able to be implemented in an offense where I can make big plays, I can be utilized by great offensive play-callers, alongside dynamic quarterback play," said Smith about the main factors in his decision. "And you're going to get that from the schools I've mentioned. I think that's what it'll boil down to. Quarterback play, offensive efficiency, winning, and then of course the success across the board for me to be successful to get to the next level."

When you combine that comment with his recent comments about the Vols, it certainly seems like a good sign for Tennessee in this recruiting battle.

"The team, the guys, the hosts, the whole staff, and ultimately Nico Iamaleava, the quarterback…I just think their offense is electric," said Smith to 247Sports of his interest in the Vols. "They have shown I can be a key force as a receiver making big plays, and someone that can be a part of the top of the SEC when it's all said and done."

Smith also recently said that Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava is a "real factor" for him in his recruitment.

“Nico Iamaleava is the Tennessee factor," said Smith to On3. "They put Nico with me on my official visit and he is a real factor for me. He is a great player, then they have others like George MacIntyre coming in behind him. They got the last official visit and I got a great understanding about where the program stands and where they are headed as a program."

It's clear that quarterback play is extremely important to Smith. And he knows what the quarterback situation at Tennessee will look like for the next several years (Nico Iamaleava, Jake Merklinger, and George MacIntyre).

Tennessee may not be the hometown school for Smith, but the Vols certainly appear to check all of his boxes. It's still possible that Georgia could emerge as the winner in this recruiting battle, but it's hard to not like the Vols' chances heading into Smith's announcement on Saturday.
