We've seen a lot of analysts suggesting trade targets for the Detroit Lions, but we haven't seen a lot of analysts suggesting players the Lions should trade away. Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport put together a list of all 32 teams and chose one player that each of them should trade away.

For the Lions he selected defensive lineman John Cominsky could be dealt away for a future day three pick. The reasoning for making the trade is that the addition of Marcus Davenport and the production that he can bring if healthy is enough to cancel Cominsky out.

It's fair to add to James Houston and Mathieu Betts to the argument as well. With Davenport joining and Houston healthy, they pushed Cominsky down the board. That's where Betts has a chance to overtake him in the lineup. At the end of the day, it's not a bad move by the Lions if they were going to make it.

With that said, Cominsky had a very good 2022 and he wasn't the only lineman to step back in 2023. With the line strengthened and Terrell Williams coaching these guys, it would be nice to see what Cominsky could do under that before fully agreeing that he should be sent away.

Our suggestion

If we had to pick one player that the Lions could trade it's Malcolm Rodriguez. In 2022 he was starter for the team and star of Hard Knocks on HBO. At some point he hit a rookie wall and he's never really fully recovered from that.

The other problem is that all the linebackers on the team got better. Anzalone had the best year of his career, Jalen Reeves-Maybin was good when he took snaps on defense, Derrick Barnes got better and Jack Campbell is the future of the whole group. That leaves Rodriguez without a real home.

He can play special teams and the Lions could look to use him as a fullback, but his days of playing a lot of linebacker look to be done unless an injury occurs.

It could be beneficial for not just the Lions, but Rodriguez as well to see what the team could get for him. There's a team out there that could offer him a lot of playing time and the opportunity to be a starter again.
