It has been about nine months since Nick Chubb suffered the second significant knee injury of his career and he’s on the path to recovery.
Since the injury happened, there has been plenty of talk that Chubb would not be able to get back to the player he once was, and who is arguably the best pure running back in the NFL.
There were even rumors early on after the injury that he would never play football again after blowing out the same knee that he did at Georgia. Chubb talked to the media for the first time since the injury on Wednesday and revealed he sees it all.
“I use it as motivation,” Chubb said of the doubt. “I see everything. It is not the first time someone has counted me out, so I’ve been here before and I’m not paying much attention to it. But I do see it.”
It was in Week 2 of last season that Chubb was injured in the first half against the Pittsburgh Steelers. A low hit to the side of the knee from safety Minkah Fitzpatrick blew the knee out. The Pro Bowl running back said that he doesn’t believe it was a dirty hit.
Chubb has rushed for 6,511 yards and 48 touchdowns in 70 career starts for the Browns since he was selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The fan favorite said himself that he isn’t quite sure when he would be back, but he is working on getting there.
“Taking it day by day getting better. Just right now I’m trying to get stronger. I like where I’m at, you know, I’m where I need to be. The biggest thing for me is getting better every day.”
The Browns weren’t able to replace Chubb last season between Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt, it was never going to happen. The Browns have D’onta Foreman, Nyheim Hines, and Pierre Strong Jr. in the room right now joining Ford and Chubb. If Cleveland wants to reach their ultimate goal, they’ll need a strong return from Chubb at some point in the season.
"He's working like crazy. I know everyone wants to know when. I know this, he is working like crazy. He's a huge, huge part of our program, what we do,” head coach Kevin Stefanski explained.
Anyone who knows Chubb knows that all he does is put his head down and work. Doubting him may end up being the wrong choice if his career has shown anything from Georgia to the NFL.
NFL analyst suggests the Browns should trade one particular quarterback before the 2024 season begins
It would be a surprise by the Browns.
