Former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator and current Washington head coach Dan Quinn knew exactly what he was doing when he took a chance on picking up center Tyler Biadasz at the start of NFL free agency.
Not only had Quinn spent the last three seasons coaching against Biadasz in practice, but he also knew who else was helping shape Biadasz into the player he is today.
And during Thursday's press conference ahead of Washington's mandatory minicamp, Quinn gave a shout-out to the two Cowboys stars who have helped transform Biadasz.
“I think having 'Badass' here, after working with him for three years, I knew not only the ball player, but I knew the person under the helmet," Quinn said. "I knew what was behind the ribcage, for him His toughness – I saw him playing with a bad ankle. Like, I knew how tough this guy was and what an important teammate he was. And so for him to be around guys like Zack Martin and Tyron Smith, that had incredible standards…
"It's fun to see new leaders emerge in the different spots. And I think we're seeing that with Tyler.”
Biadasz, 26, was initially a fourth-round pick by Dallas in the 2020 NFL Draft. He started four games as a rookie before becoming a full-time starter one year later followed by his first and only Pro Bowl nod in 2022.
This year, Biadasz will be tasked with protecting Washington's rookie quarterback, Jayden Daniels, which Quinn appears to already trust him with.
While the Commanders seemed to have figured things out with Biadasz, his absence has left a big hole in the Cowboys' offense — something they're still figuring out.
It looks like the center job will come down to rookie Cooper Beebe or Brock Hoffman. And right now, it sounds like Hoffman is in the lead to win the job.
Unfortunately, Beebe doesn't get the luck of having Tyron Smith AND Zack Martin around to coach him up like Hoffman and Biadasz had, but he still seems to be adjusting well to the veteran leadership that is available.
