The 2024 NFL regular season will feature eight home games and nine road games for every AFC team, including the Cincinnati Bengals.
Playing one more game on the road compared to home is a slight disadvantage, but not having to travel far on an average road trip is better than spending more time going to and from each destination.
The Bengals, and their fans, are set to experience this reality in the fall.
Bill Speros of Bookies.com went through how many miles each NFL club will travel this season and found that the Bengals will cover the second-least amount of ground throughout the year at 10,611. Only the Washington Commanders (10,550) will travel fewer miles.
Despite having one extra road game compared to half the league, the Bengals rarely have to go well out of their way for away contests this year.
The longest distances they'll cover for round trips will be to face the Los Angeles Chargers (3,800 miles), Dallas Cowboys (1,656 miles), New York Giants (1,131 miles) and Kansas City Chiefs (1,069 miles). Only three of those matchups will be in different timezones.
The average round trip for Cincinnati's nine games is 1,179, and it includes five games under 1,000 total miles.
That's really good news for fans wanting to catch a Bengals game away from Cincinnati. The shorter the flight or the car ride, the easier it is on your wallet.
Even the "long" trips are to huge cities like Los Angeles, Dallas, and New York. If you want to go big, you'll end up in a bustling metropolis.
For the players, shorter travel times are certainly not a negative. They only have one true west coast team to face despite playing the AFC West, and their only NFC South opponent plays in the closest city to Cincinnati in that division.
Less time on the plane, more time getting ready to play on the ground.
