Peyton Manning wants someone to break one of his NFL records, and to do it as soon as possible.

Not words you'd expect to hear a true competitor and one of the greatest players in NFL history say about himself.  But then again, it happens to be a record that pretty much anyone in his position likely would also offer up for someone to break.

The Tennessee Vols legend and former Colt/Bronco spoke at the 2024 Mizell Institute annual event, and the topic of his NFL record for interceptions by a rookie came up.  Manning is ready for someone else to succeed him in that category.

"I played as a rookie," Manning said. "That was not a fun year.  It was well-documented how many interceptions that I threw.  I mean, if any one of these rookies wanted to break my interception record, I'd be for it.  I don't want Bo [Nix] to break it, but I'd like to get that one off my resume.  You'd think with 17 games, you would be able to it, right?  It's 28.  It shouldn't bet hard, but anyway, I'm over it."

Manning indeed had a rookie season to forget in 1998.  Drafted with the first pick of the 1998 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts, expectations were certainly high for the rookie Manning.

Unfortunately, like pretty much any rookie, there were struggles.  28 interceptions worth of struggles to be exact.  He completed 57.3% of his throws for 3739 yards with 26 touchdowns and the 28 picks.  The completion percentage and yardage were the lowest of his career, and the 26 touchdowns matched a career low.

All around, it was a forgettable season.  Fortunately, a legendary career would follow for the first-ballot Hall of Famer including an NFL-record 5 MVP awards and 2 Super Bowl titles.

Now, if someone would like to eliminate Manning's name from one of the more unbecoming entries into the league's record books, he'd be more than happy about it.
