It has become increasingly expensive to watch Kansas City Chiefs games in the comfort of your own home in the age of streaming video.
The Chiefs are one of six NFL teams where fans will need two extra streaming services to watch games during the 2024 NFL season. They'll play their Week 13 game vs. the Las Vegas Raiders on Amazona Prime Video on Black Friday, which falls on Nov. 29. They'll play their Christmas Day game (Dec. 25) on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers as part of Netflix's new NFL doubleheader.
A to Z Sports' Mike Payton recently broke down the cost to watch every game for all 32 NFL teams. His calculations are based on the average cable TV package, which costs $74 monthly. During the NFL's September to January regular-season runtime, that comes out to $370. He also broke down the streaming service's monthly cost:
- Amazon Prime: $13.99
- Netflix: $6.99
- Peacock: $5.99
- ESPN+: $10.99
The Chiefs fall in the top bracket alongside the Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, and Pittsburgh Steelers. It'll cost fans a whopping $390.98 to have a cable package, Netflix, and Amazon Prime to watch all of their team's games during the 2024 NFL season.
This, however, is only for fans who live in local markets. If you're a consumer who lives outside of a local television market in Kansas City you'll have to pay a staggering $469.97 for YouTubeTV's NFL "Sunday Ticket" package on top of the two necessary streaming services. If you decide to NFL "Sunday Ticket" package with YouTubeTV's basic package, you can finesse it down to $442.96 without any other deals or promotions they might have going on.
There is a slight chance that changes could be coming to the cost of the league's telecast packages in the future. The NFL will go to trial in June for a class-action lawsuit regarding their “Sunday Ticket” telecast packages and their potential violation of U.S. antitrust laws. Not only could the league be forced to change its offerings in telecast packages, but they could shell out an estimated $6 billion in damages to commercial and residential plaintiffs in the class-action suit.
