Retired NFL tight end Delanie Walker, a three time Pro Bowler, thinks the Tennessee Titans have their franchise quarterback in Will Levis.
Walker, who played for the Titans from 2013 to 2019 after spending the first seven seasons of his career with the San Francisco 49ers, joined the Up and Adams Show on Tuesday and he was quick to endorse Levis as the answer at quarterback in Nashville.
“Of course, Mr. Mayonnaise himself, definitely,” said Walker when asked if Levis gets his seal of approval. “I feel like what he did last year was phenomenal. Just to come in there and play very well, show guys that he’s tough, he wants to win games — he’ll put his body on the line to get a W. You want to see that out of your quarterback. We don’t want him to get hurt, you gotta calm down a little bit this year — we need you for every game. But I like what I’ve seen. We think that Will is our franchise quarterback.
"We need players to help him out. And I feel like we did that. We added so many guys on the outside that can make plays down the field. It’s exciting. I think Will is excited about the situation. Having some guys he can just throw the ball up to, they can make plays for him, I think that’s big. I think he’s our guy. I’m excited to see what he can do this year. Again, we just gotta keep him healthy.”
There's certainly plenty of reason for optimism when it comes to the quarterback position in Nashville.
Levis showed last season — specifically in the Titans' wild comeback win on the road against the Miami Dolphins in Week 14 — that not only does he have the skillset to thrive in the NFL, but he also has the leadership abilities to rally those around him.
Levis wasn't in an ideal situation as a rookie last year with the Titans.
Pass protection was an issue and the offense had no identity. Levis, however, still managed to show the talent that led to some teams placing a first round draft grade on the former Kentucky standout.
With an offensive minded head coach in Brian Callahan now calling the shots for the Titans, plus the presence of offensive line guru Bill Callahan, the sky is the limit for what Levis and company can accomplish in Nashville.
