One thing is for certain in the college football recurring world, the Ohio State Buckeyes are leading the way at getting who they want at wide receiver.
This past weekend in Columbus, it was a big recruiting weekend for Ohio State and they brought in a huge wideout target.
Dakorien Moore is a one-time LSU commit who is the No. 1 wide receiver in the country and a top target of multiple premier programs. Following the visit to Columbus, the Buckeyes are one of the leaders for Moore it appears.
"It was an excellent visit my family and I all agreed," Marjahn Moore said to 247Sports ($). "They will be very tough to beat in my eyes because they are just on another level in every way."
Moore is the No. 3 overall player in the 247 Sports Composite and will visit with Texas, Oregon, and LSU coming up. The talented wideout will visit with LSU on June 7, then Texas on June 14, and finishes with Oregon on June 21.
After getting the No. 1 wideout last year Jeremiah Smith, the Buckeyes going out and getting Moore would be huge. The 5-foot-11 wideout is a smooth route runner who can make defenses pay after the catch.
As a junior last season, Moore recorded 71 catches for 1,523 yards and 18 touchdowns. Entering his senior season, Moore has 130 catches for 2,653 yards and 29 touchdowns.
Gabe Brooks look at Moore as a Chris Olave type of player:
Big-play receiver who provides return game weapon for perennial Texas 6A powerhouse. Pedestrian height but good length with some frame space. Possesses a strong multi-sport profile that includes some promising 100- and 200-meter reps, plus participation in state title-contending 4×100 and 4×200 relays. Speed shows on the field, especially in the first 10 to 20 yards. Glider with separating ability thanks to both speed and agility. Gets on top of corners in a flash and shows excellent downfield ball-tracking concentration. Spatially aware of defender, boundaries, etc., and displays good body control when required. Plays bigger than listed size thanks to timing, ball skills, and adjustment acumen. Shows some subtle route snap that fosters separation at multiple levels. Impressive run-after-catch threat with a sprinter's stride, but also elusiveness without punitive gear-down when redirecting. Honing expanded route tree will raise ceiling on playmaking arsenal. Plays plenty fast but every once a while the top end might not correspond to the combine testing and track data. Bona fide high-major receiver prospect who looks like one of the top prospects in Texas and top receivers nationally entering his junior season. Projects as a multi-year impact player with a long-term ceiling that could produce NFL Draft early-round consideration.” – Gabe Brooks, 247 Sports
It may be tough having the first official visit at times, but the Buckeyes had a chance to set the bar high for Moore and they look to have done just that. Now, it is just a wait-and-see game.
