Commanders are in great shape to select a Joe Burrow-type player in the 2024 NFL Draft

One of the cooler aspects of football is the storylines that parallel, or at other times, cross over with each other. Players from all different walks of life can share the same perspectives or same experiences without even speaking or interacting with each other.
A storyline that fits the mold is that of Jayden Daniels, the former LSU Tigers quarterback and most recent Heisman Trophy winner. Daniels was relatively unknown before bursting onto the scene during his final season. And as such, he's slated to go as high as No. 2 overall, potentially, in the 2024 NFL Draft.
It's a lot similar to former LSU and current Cincinnati Bengals quarterback, Joe Burrow. Burrow was pretty much just a guy before he recorded one of the best, if not the best, collegiate seasons by a quarterback in NCAA history.
And, it's very likely that Daniels is the Commanders' QB of the future.
"Jayden Daniels did the exact same thing that Joe did – both at LSU," Kiper said on the latest episode of the God Bless Football podcast. "Jayden went from, like, a fourth-round pick to the No. 2 pick, potentially, overall. Joe did it [and he] was not a phenomenal, "wow", quarterback that first year at LSU. And all sudden, he took off and became the guy. So again, some are the guy for a longer time, some become the guy…
"… The evaluation of quarterbacks is fascinating every year and probably more so this year than any other I can remember."
Daniels would be a good fit in Kliff Kingsbury's offense and it looks like Kingsbury wants a player that more fits Daniels' style of play, based off the addition of veteran QB and former No. 2 overall pick, Marcus Mariota.
Daniels can certainly move, evidenced by his 1,134 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns in 2023, and has the deep speed to outrun defenders for massive chunks of yards. But it's his deep ball that really has NFL coaches excited about his potential.
Daniels' deep ball is an absolute weapon. Per Pro Football Focus, he led all quarterbacks with a 69.3% completion rate on passes of 20+ air yards, which was over 14% better than second-place Jalen Milroe. He also led the same 40 quarterbacks with at least 54 passing attempts in yards per attempt on deep balls (24.5), big-time throw rate (45.0%), and adjusted completion percentage (69.1%).
It will obviously be a few more years until we know if Daniels' trajectory continues to follow Burrow's, but it's also obvious the Commanders will have their guy for the next 10+ years if Daniels does continue on this path.
