With the way the Dallas Cowboys have been doing things this offseason, making the right picks in the 2024 NFL Draft will be crucial in their success next season.

They desperately need at least one offensive lineman who can step into a starting role right away while also feeling many other pressing needs.

Using Pro Football Focus' mock draft simulator, I put on my Cowboys GM hat and went to war.

First round, 24th overall: C Jackson Powers-Johnson

The Cowboys get their guy to replace Tyler Biadasz and possibly upgrade at center. Powers-Johnsons dominated in the Senior Bowl and could be the man the offense needs to boost the running game.

Interestingly enough, so far all of the reported Top 30 visits for the Cowboys are considered interior linemen, so Powers-Johnson is the pick over a couple of intriguing tackle prospects.

Top alternatives considered: OT Tyler Guyton, OT Jordan Morgan, DE Darius Robinson, WR Brian Thomas Jr.

Second round, 56th overall: LB Edgerrin Cooper

A Top 30 visit for the Cowboys, Cooper is a heck of an athlete. Although undersized, Cooper should compete for a significant role thanks to his high-end range and speed. Mike Zimmer's defense needs the depth at linebacker and Cooper at 56th is great value.

"Long arms, with the frame to add more mass," writes A to Z Sports' film specialist James Foster in his Big Board. "Outstanding range to chase down ballcarriers & flow sideline-to-sideline, quick response time & diagnosis of run concepts, scrapes with efficient movements & square pads.

Top alternatives considered: RB Jonathon Brooks, DL T'Vondre Sweat, LB Junior Colson, WR Malachi Corley, WR Keon Coleman

Third round, 87th overall: RB Trey Benson, Florida State

Another Top 30 visit for the Cowboys, Benson making it to the third round is great value. Foster ranks him as his 67th best prospect and top running back of the class. Benson would come in and immediately be the favorite to become RB1 over Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, among others.

Top alternatives considered: RB Blake Corum, LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr., WR Brenden Rice

Fifth round, 174th overall: DL Justin Jefferson, LSU

The Cowboys need a big defensive tackle to come in and add depth behind last year's first-round draft pick, Mazi Smith. Jefferson's weight ranks him in the 87th percentile, per A to Z Sports CFB specialist Travis May's data.

The Cowboys formally met with Jefferson at the NFL Scouting Combine, among multiple other big guys, so look for a nose tackle in Day 3 of the draft.

Sixth round, 216th overall: OL Brandon Coleman, TCU

Another steal! Coleman ranks 135th in Foster's board and 183rd on the consensus board. Here, the Cowboys get him outside the Top 200. Coleman's height has led to many consider him a guard but he's got the arm length to provide flex as a potential tackle, as well.

"Highest athletic score of any OL in this class," writes Foster. "Stabs edge rushers with a sharp outside hand punch, good core strength & strong anchor, showed flashes of overwhelming power at the point of attack."

Seventh round, 233rd overall: LB Trevin Wallace, Kentucky

Speaking of big-time athletes, the Cowboys get the off-ball linebacker with the highest A to Z Sports' Athletic Composite Score in Wallace. He'd provide much-needed depth and compete for a roster spot while showing big upside. Wallace, who is a Top 30 visit for Dallas, ranks 138th per the consensus board.

Seventh round, 244th overall: RB Rasheen Ali, Marshall

A rising name in this year's draft process is Rasheen Ali, who Senior Bowl Executive Director Jim Nagy recently labeled a future Day 3 steal for whoever picks him. That team is the Cowboys in this mock, who are showing pre-draft interest in him.
