As hard as it is to make it to the NFL, staying is that much harder.
For the majority of players, every year could be their last in the ultra-competitive sport.
A big part of that is the anywhere between 15-25 rookies that enter every team's roster after the draft and college free-agent period.
And with that weekend around the corner, here are three Steelers who could be fighting for either their starting job or roster spot come the summer:
CB Donte Jackson
Having yet to play a snap in Pittsburgh, the recently acquired veteran is likely to be on the roster regardless in 2024, but the draft may determine in what capacity.
Coming off of recent visits that included a potential first-round pick at CB, Pittsburgh is doing their due diligence at the position, with a corner selection inside the top 51 spelling trouble for Pittsburgh's potential starter.
LT Dan Moore Jr.
Pittsburgh wants to get second-year OT Broderick Jones back to his natural position of left tackle. That much is given.
Beyond that, they have shown interest in a variety of tackles in the draft, including Jones' former teammate, Georgia RT Amarius Mims.
So if Pittsburgh addresses the position in round one, a recent report suggested there's a chance Moore isn't even on the team come September, much less starting.
S DeShon Elliott
A former Raven now in Pittsburgh, while Elliott is the least likely to receive considerable completion for his starting role, there are a plethora of safeties including Georgia's Javon Bullard and Miami's Kameron Kinchens that may entice Pittsburgh on day two of the draft and set up an intriguing camp battle.
