Easily one of the more polarizing prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft, Iowa DB Cooper DeJean is going to either be a steal for a team, or a player many question on why he went so high.
With various opinions around the league and in the media on what position he should play at the next level, DeJean is going to generate plenty of discussion in draft rooms around the NFL over the next couple of weeks.
But regardless of where you want to play him, here are three playoff caliber teams that would greatly benefit from a versatile defensive back:
Green Bay Packers
Green Bay may have just acquired safety Xavier McKinney, but beyond him and Jaire Alexander, the team needs more depth and playmaking at outside corner, nickel, and or safety.
Showing the propensity to play all three positions, DeJean could overtake Keisean Nixon's role as the starting nickel and kick returner from day one while he acclimates to the position that suits him best.
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts have proven defensive backs via re-signed nickel Kenny Moore and safety Julian Blackmon, but the outside corner and free safety position lack experience and production, even if CB Juju Brents showed flashes as a rookie.
Indianapolis could opt to place DeJean opposite of Brents to form a young and dynamic corner duo for years to come, or they could ensure their nickel-safeties are among the best in the league via Moore, Blackmon, and DeJean.
Pittsburgh Steelers
While Pittsburgh recently traded for veteran CB Donte Jackson, they still have a pressing need at the nickel spot, a position where I think DeJean would thrive and make his living in the NFL.
The question is, would Pittsburgh use a first-round pick on a nickel, as despite the discourse on DeJean, he's likely to be long gone by the time they pick again at 51.
