Strengths

  • Get-Off: Lightning first step to get tackles oversetting and guards thrown for a loop
  • Power Rush: Converts that quickness to power, generating knock back from his leg drive
  • Motor: Will chase down backside runs runs and work a tackle even if he’s long lost the rep

Areas of Improvement-Concerns

  • Bend: Can’t really flatten his rush path and corner on his way to the QB
  • Stiffness: Tightly bound and can labor when asked to change direction horizontally. Teams will hunt him as a surfer on RPO’s
  • Pass Rush Plan: Not a ton of technique or refinement to his game, with few if any counter moves

Evaluation:

Verse burst onto the scene in 2022 after compiling double digit sacks for the Seminoles and terrorizing tackles with his get-off and power rush. The latter continued in spurts throughout 2023, but the former took a decline via production and so has his draft stock. Still likely to go first round, Verse can be an impact player earlier in his career with a ready made bull rush and get-off that will give tackles issues.
