Things are going to be a bit different in the NFL starting in the 2024 season when it comes to how defense is played.

The competition committee passed the ban on hip drop tackles and it has now been passed by NFL owners.

Immediately, the rule has been well accepted by offensive guys and defensive guys are not for it at all. That is what is expected as this is now a way that players could lose money due to fines or injuries. Players on offense don’t want to be at a higher risk of being injured and missing time, so the ban is music to their ears.

On the other hand, defensive players are going to have to be more careful now or risk being penalized or fined. Tackling bigger players that you have to track down now becomes much harder to do.

The Cleveland Browns are going to be affected by this just like every other team in the NFL. Teams are likely going to spend time going over the hip drop, what it is, and how not to do it. For the Browns, this could be worrisome because they do play a more aggressive defensive than many teams under Jim Schwartz.

Year No. 1 under the new rule is going to be interesting to watch how it is governed. The Browns and every other team have adjustments to make.
