Here's why Pittsburgh made it happen:
More time to make a deal
As the NFL looks to increasingly become more of a spectacle year-round, one of the most exciting times of the season is the trade deadline.
And while football hasn't adopted the NBA's mantra of player empowerment, making big names easily accessible via trade, the midseason event has picked up steam in recent years.
So it makes sense that the NFL would want an extension, as it only creates more of a buildup process for what could be a blockbuster trade.
But from a team standpoint, the extra week creates a clearer picture.
As most know, a lot can change from week to week in the NFL. Whether that be injuries, positioning in the standings, or trade requests, the extra week allows teams to gain clarity on where they stand as the deadline will now be in November opposed to October.
So what was already going to be a polarizing first Tuesday of November, just got even spicier thanks to the Steelers.
