For 24 seasons, Bill Belichick was the face of the New England Patriots, putting together a dominant team for many years. However, when things started to go downhill, it felt as if Patriots owner Robert Kraft was distancing himself from the head coach, instead letting him take the blame for everything.
So that's why it wasn't a surprise when the two sides decided to part ways after the 2023 season.
Yet, it added insult to injury when "The Dynasty" docuseries was released and appeared to be almost a hit piece on Belichick. And that was while Kraft was praised by throughout.
It seems people forgot that without Belichick, there would be no Brady. He was the one who made the ultimate decision to bench the $100 million quarterback for a nobody.
And the documentary did a good job showing that. They highlighted how Belichick went against what was expected in the first three episodes, taking his team to the top.
Even Kraft admitted that he "loved" the first three episodes.
However, episode four is when they dove into the Spygate scandal, and that's when it changed to a negative perception of Belichick. Even some of the quotes used from Kraft in the episodes did not paint the former head coach in the best light.
But now after seeing the entire thing, Kraft has finally said what everyone has been waiting for him to say. And with that, he's defending the coach that brought him six Super Bowl championships.
“Look, I'll state this clearly: I feel so privileged that we had Bill here. And you know, we hope when he’s finished that we’re gonna have a chance to honor him the way we did — we will do with Tom Brady this year,” Kraft said. “You know, we did this little ceremony at halftime of the Eagles game, but it was not adequate. And we look forward to being able to celebrate putting him into the Patriots Hall of Fame: six, twelve, twenty-four (June 12). I love forward to the privilege of putting Bill into the Patriots Hall of Fame one day in the future."
So there you have it: Belichick will be in the Patriots Hall of Fame. And he'll probably be in Canton one day as well.
But with everything that has gone down over the past few seasons, its nice to finally hear this from the owner.
