The Chicago Bears are less than a month away from the 2024 NFL Draft and still have lingering questions regarding their one of their first round selections.

It's all but confirmed that the Bears are leaning towards selecting quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in the draft but who knows what the front office will ultimately do with their ninth overall pick in the draft.

However, the Bears are sitting in an incredibly favorable spot with their second selection in the first round no matter how the first eight selections play out.

During the first weeks of free agency, the Bears strategically made signings at almost all of their major needs on the roster, leaving the front office free to draft whichever prospect is the best available with their second pick, which was all part of the plan.

"What we've done in free agency allows us to be flexible [with the ninth overall pick] to be able to take the best player that we feel fits for us in that spot," Bears' head coach Matt Eberflus said last week.

According to Pro Football Focus, the Bears still have three major needs still remaining on the roster going into the draft: quarterback, defensive end, and wide receiver. The Bears will fill the quarterback need with the first pick, and I would say competition at offensive tackle is currently the team's fourth biggest need.

Throughout the draft process, the Bears have been linked to prospects at each of those three other positions to fill those needs in the first round. Based on the number of rumored prospects expected to potentially fall in the Top-10 selections, the Bears will be set up to add a top player at any of those positions no matter what.

So far, four quarterbacks and two/three wide receivers have routinely been mocked in the Top-10 selections of the upcoming draft. Those players being Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake May, J.J. McCarthy, Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze. Add in one defensive player and one offensive tackle, that's already nine of the top prospects.

This means that the Bears will have their pick of who will be on the board at nine between either the top edge rusher, the top offensive tackle, or one of the three wide receivers saying all four quarterbacks are off the board. This still doesn’t even factor in tight end Brock Bowers who would find his way into the first ten selections as well.

Bears' general manager Ryan Poles is already aware of this belief based on the current draft trends and feels comfortable with where the team is currently slated to pick.

"We have different tiers on our draft board. I like the numbers in terms of the talented players that can get to nine," Poles said. "We’ll have a debate in terms of what’s more impactful for our football team, short-term and long-term."

Even if somehow one of the four quarterbacks fall down the board after the Bears take Williams, the option still remains to trade back from the ninth overall pick if someone wants to move up for that quarterback.

There's a lot of options and still a long way to go until the draft, but as it stands, the Bears are sitting in the best possible spot to be in out of any team in the league, in more ways than one.
