3 Saints that could make the team better in 2024 NFL season
Trevor Penning
The young offensive tackle is slated to start at RT. The Saints are preparing to be without Ryan Ramczyk for 2024, and that would be a major loss. Enter the inexperienced OT who has struggled with injuries so far during his NFL career.
The Saints staff believes that the scheme change could help with the development of Penning. If he shows that he can be a solid starter, that's a massive headache resolved for Derek Carr and New Orleans in 2024.
Jordan Howden
Howden could be the most pivotal piece of the Saints defense. The safety position is a big question mark outside of veteran Tyrann Mathieu for the Saints. Howden is expected to start, and he played some good football in place of Marcus Maye last season.
Regardless, it's hard to project how he will fare in a full NFL season as as second-year player since being a day three pick. Not to mention, the depth is lacking at the position for New Orleans. We will see if Howden can make the Saints look smart for not adding another potential starter at safety during the draft or free agency.
Bryan Bresee
The young defensive lineman flashed as a rookie in 2023. He was arguably the best interior player for New Orleans' defense and possesses the highest pass rush ceiling of any IDL on the roster. He must improve his play against the run, but reports from practice during the offseason have been positive regarding the second-year lineman.
If Bresee takes another step forward and Chase Young stays healthy, the defensive line should be much improved in 2024.
