NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Titans have recently been in contact with former UFL kick returner and wide receiver Juwan Manigo, sources tell A to Z Sports.
Manigo, 26, is a wide receiver and return specialist with elusive speed that has now put him on the radar of NFL teams. After winning MVP honors in back-to-back years in Mexico's LFA, Manigo made his UFL debut with the Arlington Renegades in March.
On the season's opening kickoff, Manigo picked up right where he left off in Mexico, taking the ball across midfield with a 45-yard return. He finished the season 3rd in the UFL in all purpose yards (1116).
"Manigo, whose "Sonic" nickname quickly caught on, became the most iconic player to ever suit up for pro ball in Mexico by winning MVP honors in back-to-back years as a wide receiver and return specialist," writes Mauricio Rodriguez of A to Z Sports. "He dominated two different pro leagues, as the Caudillos went from playing in a competing league to the LFA to "graduating" to the longest-tenured league and going undefeated en route to becoming champions in their first year in the LFA, in no small part thanks to Manigo."
An offseason rule change has brought the kick return back to life in the NFL. There are going to be less touchbacks and more kick returns in 2024, and more importantly, more returns of consequence that can change the course of a game. Every team will be looking to get a leg up in that area.
Eight different players returned kicks during Titans OTAs this summer: RB Tyjae Spears, RB Tony Pollard, RB Jabari Small, WR Jha'Quan Jackson, WR Kyle Philips, WR Mason Kinsey, CB Eric Garror, and even WR Treylon Burks.
Tennessee, like most NFL teams right now, is looking for someone to step up in the return game. Titans special teams coordinator Colt Anderson is simply looking for the best 11 players possible to put on his unit…perhaps Manigo would provide a unique skillset to this group once training camp competition begins.
