There has been plenty of doubt among fans and media across the country after the Miami Dolphins' meteoric rise and subsequent tailspin during the 2023 season. Some have called the Dolphins pretenders or paper tigers despite an offense that put up video game numbers and a roster that suffered significant losses throughout.
However, it appears, based on a handful of signings this offseason, that the Dolphins are a place that players feel like they can win. One that some are even willing to make financial sacrifices for.
Add Calais Campbell to that list. Campbell's contract amount for 2024, according to OverTheCap.com, is $2 million. $1.21 of that is contract, and the rest is signing bonus.
$2 million is a sharp drop from what Campbell had been earning in recent seasons. And it's not like Campbell had a drop off last season. He appeared in all 17 games (something the Dolphins cannot take for granted these days) last year for Atlanta with a solid 6.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss.
But Campbell's deal isn't the only one to scratch your head at (at least if you're not a Dolphins fan). Odell Beckham, Jr.'s contract for one year, $3 million was surprisingly low – even though incentives will reportedly take that up to over $8 million. Jordan Poyer's deal was for one year, $2 million. That was also one that surprised some folks when it was announced.
But that speaks volumes to what some very accomplished players see in what the Dolphins can achieve in 2024. Campbell is a six-time Pro Bowler. Poyer was a key part of some excellent Buffalo teams. Beckham is a Super Bowl champion and was one of the best players in the league during his time in New York. All three took less money than they probably could have gotten elsewhere on the market to come to Miami.
That should give Dolphins fans a lot of confidence in what Miami could do in 2024 regardless of what the talking heads or accounts on social media might say.
