Their quarterback got snubbed from the list, and it does not make too much sense.
Justin Herbert left off top 10 rookie seasons off all-time list
From a statistical standpoint, the omission is laughable. Herbert ranks first in six different notable categories for a rookie QB.
- Passing TDs (31)
- Total TDs (36)
- Completions (396)
- Games with at least 300 passing yards (8)
- Games with at least two TDs (10)
- Games with at least three TDs (6)
With those numbers, it is very difficult to imagine that season not being top ten in NFL history for a rookie.
Plus, Herbert was second all-time in passing yards for a rookie with 4,336. Are these counting stats for a team that had a bad defense? Yes. Are they still historically impressive and better than some of the other players on the list? Yes!
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert didn’t waste any time proving his new team right for drafting him sixth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. He led all rookie quarterbacks in every statistical measure and finished in the top 10 among all quarterbacks in most categories. That resulted in him winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. — LAFB Network
The Chargers made sure to relay these stats and their comical frustration on social media.
The rankings came from Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team.
The players listed had great seasons, albeit some of them not as impressive as Herbert's. For example, C.J. Stroud was great last year for the Houston Texans. His stats get blown out of the water in comparison to Herbert's from his rookie year.
Some other noteworthy omissions from the rankings include Dak Prescott, Andrew Luck, and Puka Nacua. I could probably go on, but those three stood out immediately.
All in all, the Chargers social media was quick to defend their quarterback, as they should. They make some good points, too.
