Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has made his first public comments regarding the multi-vehicle crash he was involved in during the offseason.
Rice is facing multiple charges after a crash in the Dallas area back in March. He was also involved in an incident at a Dallas area nightclub, but the accuser in that situation has since asked that Rice not be charged. It is expected that Rice will receive a lengthy suspension during the 2024 NFL season, but for now, he seems to be taking everything in stride.
While attending a youth football camp hosted by several Chiefs receivers, Rice told Kansas City Star reporter Jesse Newell that he is learning and growing from his mistakes.
Rice went into more detail about how he's maturing throughout his current situation.
“Being grateful for every day,” he said. “Nothing possible without the grace of God so we just out here trying to share the love and be blessed for every opportunity we get. I’ve learned so much from [the offseason troubles]. All I can do is mature and continue to grow from that. This is a step in a better direction for me. Accidents and stuff like that happen but all you can do is kind of move forward and walk around being the same person and try to be positive so that everybody could feel your love and your good energy.”
Rice has kept busy recently by participating in OTAs as well as this youth camp. The camp was held at Central High School in Kansas City. Other Chiefs receivers attending included Hollywood Brown, Xaiver Worthy, Mecole Hardman, Skyy Moore, and Justyn Ross.
Rice was recorded by Harold Kuntz of Fox 4 News running drills with the kids.
It remains to be seen what a suspension for Rice will look like, but the Chiefs have added extra insurance by drafting Worthy and re-signing Hardman. Rice will be eligible to participate in training camp and preseason games despite being suspended.
Hopefully, for Rice, he continues to stay busy with the right things and has truly learned from these incidents. A bright and productive career awaits him if he's able to overcome this troublesome offseason and looming suspension.
