The New Orleans Saints have seen plenty of new faces join their roster this offseason. A familiar face won't be back in the cards for 2024, though. Instead, he will head to the AFC. The Saints shouldn't be too heartbroken over the loss, though.

Former Saints safety Marcus Maye signing with the Dolphins

Maye reportedly "had multiple teams interested" in him but believes the Dolphins can contend for a Super Bowl title this season.

Maye played in just seven games in 2023. He dealt with a three-game suspension from the NFL and missed the other time with a shoulder injury. All in all, it was a very disappointing campaign. Maye totaled 37 total tackles, two interceptions, two passes defended and a sack in 2023.

When he was on the field in 2022, he was a solid piece for New Orleans. That was not quite the case in 2023, though. He missed tackles rather consistently, and Jordan Howden outplayed him in coverage as a rookie. His grade from Pro Football Focus was a measly 57.6 last season.

As for the Saints, their safety depth remains a bit unproven. Howden will slot in as a starter opposite Tyrann Mathieu most likely, and Jonathan Abram will be rotator on defense. They may look to add another veteran in free agency, but don't expect them to break the bank for one quite yet.

Regardless, bringing back Maye never seemed very likely once the Saints released him in February. New Orleans got just 17 appearances over his two years with the team.

They got one good year out of him, but overall, he wasn't worth the contract he signed before the 2022 season.

Now, the veteran safety will look for a fresh start in Miami.
