Four-star wide receiver from Las Vegas, NV, Derek Meadows, will be back in South Bend visiting the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for an official visit this weekend.
It's a big deal for Notre Dame as they attempt to get a commitment from the No. 7 wide receiver prospect and the No. 37 overall ranked player nationally.
According to Ryan Roberts of Irish Breakdown, things have not been trending in the right direction with Meadows, which makes this visit so important.
"He definitely likes Notre Dame but schools like Alabama seem to be trending in a stronger direction, while the Irish have stagnated over the last couple of months," Roberts writes. "If Notre Dame is going to have a real chance in the end, they have to really move the needle on this visit. This is their big chance to reverse that momentum."
Meadows (6-6, 200 pounds) caught 15 passes for 391 yards and 8 touchdowns last fall as a Sophomore at Bishop Gorman High School.
He is also a track star and was named Nevada 2023 Gatorade Track and Field Player of the Year.
Other powerhouse schools in contention to land Meadows include Georgia, LSU, Michigan, and Alabama.
What Makes Derek Meadows So Great?
A to Z Sports' college football analyst Travis May broke down what makes Meadows one of the most highly sought-after wide receivers in the country, citing Meadows' overall size, ball skills, and track speed:
It's rare to see such a steep rise in a short amount of time for wide receivers, but Derek Meadows leaped from a fringe 3-4 star to 32nd overall in 247Sports' rankings in just a few short months. After he averaged over 26 yards per reception for Bishop Gorman on their way to a state championship and impressed on the track as well, Meadows was clearly on his way to becoming one of the best wide receiver recruits in the country.
At 6'5", nearly 200 pounds, Meadows offers incredible size, length, track speed, and an ability to go get the ball at the point of catch. He brings a unique skill set that could translate at both wide receiver and tight end long-term, which makes him a mismatch nightmare.
May also notes that Meadows has visited South Bend on unofficial visits at least three other times.
But this is the one they must get right as Meadows makes his final decision.
