The New Orleans Saints have their starter at quarterback for 2024. It is Derek Carr. Could they still target his heir in this year's draft? Probably not in round one – but overall, it is possible.

Michael Penix Jr., Bo Nix, Michael Pratt, and Spencer Rattler are the day two QBs that get a lot of national media attention. The first two have a chance to go in round one.

Former Saints QB Chase Daniel thinks New Orleans is the best fit for Michael Penix Jr.

The former Washington Huskies pigskin slinger broke out in 2023, leading Washington to the CFP National Championship game. His leadership, downfield accuracy, and pocket mobility are all impressive traits.

Michael Penix Jr. is a modern NFL quarterback, combining precise passing, athleticism, and a high football IQ. His proficiency in making every throw and his leadership in the pocket distinguish him as a compelling prospect for the 2024 NFL Draft. While concerns about his injury history and being 24 at draft time persist, his arm talent and resilience position him as a top quarterback prospect.

The Saints do not lack downfield targets in Rashid Shaheed and Chris Olave. They may add a wideout in this year's draft, too. Penix Jr. would have some talent to get the ball to in New Orleans.

That being said, he may go before the Saints pick in the second round at 45th overall. New Orleans should not target him with the 14th overall pick – too early.

Daniel thinks Penix would learn a lot from watching Carr play for a season then stepping in for him. That does make sense, though. Even as an older QB prospect, there is still plenty of rawness to his game entering the NFL.
