While the New England Patriots made it clear they were open to trading the No. 3 overall pick, it was going to take a very big offer to get them to move.
And two teams did make an offer, but it wasn't enough to convince the Patriots to move.
According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the New York Giants and the Minnesota Vikings were the two teams to make offers.
The Giants offered the Patriots their No. 6 overall pick in 2024 along with a 2025 first-round pick. As for the Vikings, they were willing to give up with the No. 11, No. 22, a 2025 first-round pick, and pick swaps that would favor Minnesota.
But the Patriots knew they wanted to take quarterback Drake Maye, and these offers weren't big enough to get them to budge.
"We had some conversations with other teams, but ultimately, we felt like Drake was the player that we wanted and we had the opportunity to get him," de facto general manager Eliot Wolf said on Thursday night after the pick.
He was then asked when those trade offers stopped.
A really long time ago," Wolf said. "It's two separate — the trade offers, I don't say they were constant, but there were different points throughout the process where there were trades, but all along we knew we were in a unique opportunity here to get a quarterback that we liked, and we were obviously able to do that."
The Giants wanted Maye, but when the Patriots grabbed him, they pivoted and went with a receiver instead. As for the Vikings, they managed to trade up and get quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
