The Chicago Bears have a new top wide receiver on the roster after drafting Washington's Rome Odunze with the ninth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Odunze is set to join two Pro Bowl caliber wide receivers in Chicago in DJ Moore and Keenan Allen for new quarterback Caleb Williams to target on offense.
Odunze and Williams have already developed a tight chemistry together and it'll be interesting to see how Odunze fits into the offensive target share from the jump.
One thing is clear, Odunze plans to be in Chicago for a longtime after rooting for the team and cheering for Pro Football Hall of Famer Devin Hester during his childhood.
Much has been known about the Bears subpar passing records Williams is hopeful to eventually surpass but the same can be said about the team's receiving records.
While appearing on the The Parkins & Spiegel Show after being drafted by the Bears, Odunze had a playful banter when asked to guess who the Bears' all-time leading receiver is. Odunze incorrectly guessed Brandon Marshall, as the answer is actually former All-Pro Johnny Morris with 5,059 career receiving yards.
If that number seems low, that's because it is for a team that was founded in 1920. Odunze himself was even shocked by the amount of yards needed to become the team's all-time leading receiver.
For context, during his first season in Chicago last season, Moore had 1,364 receiving yards and would only need to play 47 more games at his current yards/game pace to hold the record himself.
If Odunze can get off to a hot start in his career and remain in Chicago for multiple seasons, he can also start the climb toward dethroning Morris' 56-year-old record. The sky is the limit for what this new-look offense can eventually achieve in Chicago.
"I think I do a lot of things well on the field and I feel like I do all of those things at a high level," Odunze said. "I'm looking to come in and make that immediate impact.
