Seahawks general manager John Schneider dropped a bombshell in an interview Thursday evening when he shared some shocking news on Drew Lock signing with the New York Giants!

"They basically sold him on the opportunity to compete to be the starter. And he felt like it was the right opportunity. He looked at Baker Mayfield’s opportunity last year and felt that this could be something similar."

The comment may come as a shock to some NFL fans, but it shouldn't. After Daniel Jones' absolutely abysmal showing at quarterback even before going down with an injury last season it sounds as though the Giants are completely open to Drew Lock competing to win the starting quarterback job.

Daniel Jones has always been a below average NFL starter (to put it politely), but last season was a flat out egregious failure at every aspect of playing the quarterback position. Six games. Two passing touchdowns. Six interceptions thrown. 30 sacks taken! Just complete and utter failure that should not be tolerated by any NFL fan base. It makes all the sense in the world that the Giants would kick off this year's training camp with an open competition at the quarterback.

Drew Lock hasn't lit the world on fire when given starting opportunities himself either, but he has several key metrics going for him over Daniel Jones when you compare the two careers.

Lock's career sack percentage is seriously half of Daniel Jones' terrible 9% career sack rate. Lock also has the advantage in career touchdown percentage and adjusted net yards per pass attempt which speaks to overall superiority in pass game efficiency.

Don't be surprised if Daniel Jones flat out loses his starting job before the season even begins.
