Tennessee Titans great Derrick Henry officially said goodbye to Nashville this week after signing a two-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens.

Baltimore always seemed like the most likely destination for Henry. That's due in part to the report from 104.5 The Zone host/A to Z Sports Titans reporter Buck Reising last October that first noted that the Ravens were interested in trading for Henry

A deal never came to fruition before last season's trade deadline, but the Ravens tried their best to make a deal happen.

On Thursday, during Henry's introductory press conference, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta confirmed that Baltimore tried to trade for the former Titans running back last season.

"To be honest, we tried to trade for Derrick before the trade deadline," said DeCosta." I thought there was a reasonable chance that we would get a trade done. It didn’t work out. It was disappointing. But we pivoted. Again, you evaluate the tape, you watch the player, you see the history of the player, you talk to people who have been around the player. It made all the sense in the world for us to target Derrick."

In the end, the Ravens got the player they've coveted for a while. And Henry landed in the place where he wanted his next NFL home to be.

"This is where I knew I wanted to be,” explained Henry on Thursday. “I love the style, the physicality that they play with on all three phases. I feel like it fits my style of play as well. And it really was a no-brainer….I’m glad we were able to get it figured out.”

The Titans and the Ravens don't play each other in the regular season in 2024. So the only way Henry can face his old team is if Tennessee and Baltimore cross paths in the playoffs.
