The New Orleans Saints have been busy during this offseason already. They are clearing cap space consistently in order to create room for free agency and a draft class.
Veterans will head out, and young players will need to step up in The Big Easy next season.
Replacing Michael Thomas seems like it will be at the top of the list of objectives for the Saints during the 2024 offseason.
Could the Steelers trade veteran WR Diontae Johnson? It seems like a possibility from recent reports, and the Saints could use a player with his skillset on the field.
Rob Gregson named the Saints as a top option for Johnson if Pittsburgh moves him during the offseason.
While the Saints have a proven playmaker in what will be third year wide receiver Chris Olave, the cupboard is awfully bare behind him with Michael Thomas' contract structured as though he is free agent, leaving only A.T. Perry as the other WR under contract for the upcoming season.
Johnson could replace Thomas as the route runner and underneath merchant of the WR room, as Olave is used over the intermediate and deep parts of the field with Perry as the ball winner over the top. — Rob Gregson, A to Z Sports Pittsburgh
Johnson would give New Orleans another proven WR option to accompany Olave and Shaheed. He has a different upside than the other two, and they all three succeed in different ways.
Plus, the veteran wideout would be an addition for the Saints that would not lock them in for too long. Next season is the final year that he would be under contract.
The Michael Thomas era with the Saints needs to be over
They both need to move on.
