A national sports talk show host says he's out on Tennessee Vols basketball ahead of March Madness because UT fans are "just too mean".
Andrew Perloff, a co-host of Maggie and Perloff, went semi-viral on Wednesday night/Thursday morning after he threw some shade at Vols guard Dalton Knecht for pointing at his ring finger after Tennessee won the regular season SEC championship.
"Winning a regular-season SEC title gets the ring celebration? Dalton Knecht is incredible but gotta have bigger Tournament goals," tweeted Perloff.
After receiving some pushback from Vols fans, Perloff declared that he's out on wanting Tennessee basketball to win it all.
"Last week I picked Tennessee to root for in March and Knecht as the most exciting player in the sport," wrote Perloff. "Loved watching them. Wanted them to win it all. Now I’m out [because] Vols fans are just too mean."
Being "out" on a program just because you disagree with the fan base is an odd decision. The fans have no control over what happens during the NCAA Tournament. And the players weren't the ones in Perloff's mentions.
And if Perloff didn't want some feedback (or social media engagement), then he would've never tweeted his opinion of Knecht's ring finger celebration. That's how social media works. If you tweet out a bad take, fans are probably going to let you hear about it. I'm not sure why folks act surprised when they receive pushback on a poor take.
But hey, it's Perloff's loss. The Vols are a lot of fun to watch right now. And I'm sure they'll continue to be must-see TV in March.
