As the NFL world tries to figure out what will be Russell Wilson's next move in an up-and-down career, the New York Giants have officially entered the conversation.

On Friday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wilson had an "exploratory meeting" with the Giants on Thursday. The Steelers have also been in contact with Wilson. A to Z Sports was first to report Wilson's interest in joining Pittsburgh.

For the Giants, the report really does nothing to inspire confidence on the future of the franchise.

While it's true that Wilson won't command a very expensive contract after a couple of underwhelming years with the Denver Broncos, the fact that New York is considering such an addition despite Daniel Jones being set to occupy $47.1 million in cap space is extremely telling.

Not only are the Giants looking for a Plan B, it's starting to look like they're waiting for the first opportunity to turn the page on Jones, which could happen right after the 2024 season.

The team could cut Jones and carry a $22.2 dead money cap hit in 2025, per Over the Cap

Otherwise, why think about bringing in Wilson's personality if it's not to actually give him a chance to play? Keep in mind, former teammates of Wilson have gone on record to make claims such as Marshawn Lynch's explanation of not even having his phone number during their time in Seattle. Adding him to be QB2 wouldn't exactly lift morale in the locker room.

Adding Wilson could be framed as getting a QB on the team to play until Jones is fully rehabbed from a torn ACL but the reality is if he does land in New York, he could be the guy the Giants want to play regardless of Jones' health.

Of course, adding Wilson would only be a temporary band aid at the quarterback position. Wilson is 35 years old and already declining. If the Giants want to find their next long-term QB, Wilson isn't the guy.
