The latest breaking NFL news will allow the Denver Broncos a chance to exact some revenge on their former quarterback during the 2024 NFL season.
After taking a visit this past week, former Broncos QB Russel Wilson has signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers worth $1.2M. Mike Tomlin is bringing Wilson in to compete for the starting QB job with former 2021 first-round draft pick Kenny Pickett, who has struggled at the onset of his NFL career.
Russ will return to Denver in 2024 as an opponent
While the 2024 NFL schedule won't be released until May, we do know the opponents that Denver will face during the upcoming season. The Steelers are among the home opponents for the Broncos, which means Russ will be making a return to Empower Field at Mile High Stadium in some capacity next season. The question is: Will he be the backup or will he be the starter for Pittsburgh?
The Wilson experiment didn't work in Denver and will go down as one of the worst trade-and-sign deals in league history. Russ leaves behind $85 million hit in dead money over the next two seasons because of his release this offseason. The reason he signed a one-year minimum deal is because anything more would strictly help the Broncos avoid paying him the $39 million of his salary that he's owed.
The Steelers did the Broncos no favors there.
Suddenly, a game that looked just like any other game against an AFC opponent is now personal and one of the more intriguing matchups of the 2024 NFL season.
Denver Broncos are no longer going after free-agent quarterback Kirk Cousins
They have to come up with a new plan.
