Trent Brown's time with the New England Patriots has officially come to an end.
The offensive tackle is signing a 1-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals, Ian Rapoport reports. He was in Cincinnati on Tuesday for a visit, and clearly made a good impression.
The Bengals gain a veteran left tackle, while the Patriots are left without one.
Brown's last season with the Patriots included a ton of controversy. And that began with the team's handling of quarterback turned wide receiver Malik Cunningham.
The tackle posted on social media after the news broke that he was signing with the Baltimore Ravens, saying "go flourish where your talent is respected."
He then spoke exclusively with A to Z Sports about this move.
"It's funny because I told him months ago if they ever called, if anybody, that's the team where he should go," Brown said about the Ravens. "It was almost like I saw it coming."
"And that's really good for him to actually get a real chance to play his real position."
Things went downhill from there with injuries sidelining him for a few weeks. And when the end of the season came and free agency was set to begin, he once again spoke exclusively with A to Z Sports about what he was thinking.
"We already had that opportunity," Brown told A to Z Sports. "We have had plenty of opportunities to get that done. I mean, I'm not opposed to it, but we are at the end of the season.
"… It'd be kind of like, I feel like I'd be kind of doing myself a disservice to not see what other opportunities are out there, just at this point."
So his leaving New England was basically set from the start.
But with the team's inability to bring in a veteran left tackle, there was some lingering hope he might return given the new coaching staff.
But that's not the case.
